What happened to this place? I have been staying here for years. Definitely not the worst place I've ever stayed, but the website is misleading and it's not as cool/retro as the photos make it out to be. When the housekeeper opened our door to my sleeping family I was scolded for not putting the "do not disturb" sign outside, however neither of our rooms had DND signs to put out. Housekeeping tried to get into the rooms promptly at 9 am, which was also annoying. Construction outside started promptly at 8 am, which was annoying. Beds were OK, pillows mismatched and awful. The rooms were suppose to be non-smoking rooms, but someone had clearly smoked in the king room - the odor was overwhelming and we had to request a new room (which was immediately taken care of with no argument, so that was a plus). When we checked in, they separated us with an empty 2 queen room between us. We booked a deluxe king and a deluxe 2 queen room. The description on their website is very misleading, and I wouldn't suggest pay extra for a pool view room. Even without the construction dumpsters, the pool is behind a fence, which would block any pool view. Our "pool view" rooms were across a parking lot, in front of some constructions dumpsters, so really no pool view to speak of. It would have been great if that was stated somewhere on the hotel website. It would have been nice if the pool house/bar area had been open, but I was informed that it's only open on weekends. The pool here is pretty nice - definitely be best part of the hotel. If you want audiophile-quality sound and your audio interface supports doing so, you should record at something higher than the CD-standard 44.1kHz/16 bits, and then save your recordings as uncompressed WAV files. For devices that don’t support FLAC–and many do not–I use Windows’ or Apple’s lossless formats. For classical music, I bump those rates up to the maximum (320, 256, or 192 kbps, depending on the format) or use the free FLAC lossless codec. I use at least 192 kilobits per second for MP3 and AAC files, and 160 kbps for WMA files. Experts differ on which bit rate sounds best for each format. If you’re not especially concerned about the sound quality, saving your recordings to compressed MP3, AAC, or WMA is fine. Noise reduction software can use the spaces between tracks to “profile” noise for more effective processing with less loss of dynamic range throughout the spectrum. If you intend to apply noise reduction (see the next section below), don’t trim your recordings until after you’ve cleaned them up. You can ditch the larger file once you’ve split it up. The editing software will let you select and save each individual track to a file that you create on your PC. The start and end points of songs are easy to spot by the changes in the visual wave form. Any audio editor or recording app worth its salt lets you select and save individual sections of an audio file. Don’t bother trying to separate each song during the recording process–record wholes sides of records and cassettes. Once you’ve connected your hardware, use a program such as Audacity (free) to record, edit, and save your newly digitized music. The sound from its preamped analog line outputs was very good, but its USB output sounded little better than the Crosley’s.Īnother Ion product, its $120 Tape 2 PC cassette deck, created middling audio recordings in my tests, regardless of whether I connected it via the USB or via the analog line outputs. Ion LP 2 CD is a turntable with USB connections for analog-to-digital audio conversion the unit subsequently transfers digitized recordings to your PC via USB cable. The quality of Ion Audio’s $300 LP 2 CD turntable, in contrast, was impressive, offering the antiskate and tracking pressure adjustments missing from the Crosley CR2413A. The digitized sound was decent, but again, it did not approach audiophile quality. Alas, the quality of the unit’s components (especially the turntable) was a tad disappointing. The $400 CR2413A Memory Master that I tested includes a turntable (33, 45, and 78 rpm), a cassette player, an FM radio, a CD player, and auxiliary line-level stereo audio inputs for other audio devices such as MP3 players–all of them recordable to your PC via a USB connection. Crosley Radio‘s products have a distinctive, appealingly retro look. This is especially disappointing for the console port, because the controls are difficult to intuit as translated for consoles few isometric RPGs make the leap to consoles, so there aren’t established schemas for formatting this particular subgenre’s mechanics to a console controller. While tutorials do exist in the game, they’re walls of uninteresting text buried behind menus. I would normally never rattle on for an entire paragraph about load times, but Deadfire’s infuriated me just so.ĭon’t expect Deadfire to hold your hand. There are about half a dozen images and info lines that cycle endlessly. Their length is exacerbated by their frequency more than once when I was learning the game’s controls and systems, I accidentally navigated to a new scene and had to sit through the up-to-a-minute-long load only to immediately return to the scene I was in prior and endure another tedious load. Regarding the technical elements of the Ultimate Edition console port, I never experienced the crashes that have been reported by others, but I did experience obscenely long load times. These moments where I was allowed to be captured by Deadfire’s storytelling were far and away the most enjoyable aspects of my experience. Especially when exploring Deadfire’s large town and city hub areas, you can get lost for hours in numerous side quests that frequently allow you to negotiate matters through means other than force the side quests also provide substantial experience, so my party continued to grow even as I ran around town solving the disagreements of Deadfire’s diverse populace. Though I struggled to enjoy Deadfire’s combat, it’s fortunately often avoidable. Suffice to say, Deadfire’s lore is sturdy enough to lean its 80+ hours of gameplay on. Once I learned their names and personalities and various deceptive tendencies, the gods of Deadfire’s world became engrossing, deeply human characters, and my interactions with them informed my understanding of their various followers who I met throughout my journey. I even grew to appreciate Deadfire’s depiction of religion. Though party members often interact in other RPGs, rarely do I feel so invested in their strange and complicated entanglements. Though I was often confused by nebulous lines like “ gave a sly smile” that seemingly evidenced growing affinity between characters, I found it endearing the first time a companion approached me to ask for my advice regarding his approach to another companion who made him feel uncomfortable. I equally admired the system of relations between companions. As I began to connect the vast system of relations between the various races of its world, I admired its ability to interrogate ideas of colonialism and nationalism quite effortlessly. Its worldbuilding is remarkably accomplished. Though it requires an extended upfront investment, I did eventually begin to settle into the rhythms and nuances of Deadfire’s narrative. The difficulty of translating Deadfire’s control scheme to console only seems to confound the impenetrability of its intricate combat mechanics. Ultimately, I never managed to fully grasp and take advantage of the immense and ever-growing array of abilities at the player’s disposal during combat, and combat became less engaging because of it. While it’s certainly the more accessible option, the turn-based system tends to prolong seemingly simple encounters this is compounded during any of the game’s dungeons and has the distinct possibility to make their traversal an unglamorous affair. me), Deadfire’s turn-based gameplay option is a welcome relief, especially with the difference of controls on console. I found myself thoroughly overwhelmed jumping directly into this title.įor players traditionally adverse to the chaotic, unforgiving real-time combat systems characteristic of isometric RPGs (i.e. While it’s possible to play Deadfire without experiencing its predecessor, I don’t recommend it. Character creation is as detailed as avid RPG enthusiasts might expect, and after players have navigated Deadfire’s initial sea (pun intended) of menus and the game begins in earnest, the names of various gods and fantasy races are thrown at players with wild abandon. Upon beginning the game, players are prompted to select between a real-time or turn-based combat system. From its outset, Deadfire doesn’t shy away from complexity in its dense lore, layered combat, and bevy of settings options. Now, the title arrives to consoles through an extensive Ultimate Edition that includes all of the various patches and DLC added since the title’s original release.Īdventurers beware, this pirate-filled voyage isn’t for the lighthearted. Back in 2018, we reviewed Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire for PC, praising it highly. Just don’t expect them to take you out to a fancy dinner-you’re probably not the only hookup on their roster. Scorpio is the shadowy musician you hooked up with in college after breaking up with a stiff, dull business major (sorry, boys). They’re known for their mysterious and occult nature, meaning that they’re in touch with their dark, sexy side. Scorpio is the freaky MF-er you didn’t know you needed to hook up with. The Full Moon in Aquarius of August 2023 Will Affect These 4 Zodiac Signs the Most The first thing we need to do is configure out virtual controller. This screen will be accompanied by a program log file window. You’ll eventually wind up on a screen that looks like this: Refresh the list of BIOS files in the emulator, select the BIOS, and finish the set-up wizard. When it gets to the point where it asks you for the BIOS file, put the BIOS files into the bios folder (found wherever you placed the emulator files or installed the emulator to). We opted for whatever default settings it presents us. As this is likely your first time running this emulator, you’ll be guided through a first run set-up wizard. Just put all of the images into this folder – it’ll be convenient for when you direct the emulator to the images. In that PS2 folder, it’s advisable to create a folder for your game DVD images. We prefer to create a PS2 folder for all of our PS2 needs and put all Ps2 related files in that. We haven’t tested the validity of this, but we tried a different BIOS and everything seems to work fine.Īfter this, just install (if you got an installer) or drag and drop (if you got a binaries copy) the emulator into a folder that is convenient for you on your hard drive. We can’t tell you how or where to find it, but some say that as long as it’s not the Japanese 1.0 BIOS, it really doesn’t matter which BIOS you get. The next thing we need to do is track down a BIOS. Just head over to the downloads section and download a copy that is appropriate for your operating system. This emulator can easily be found on the PCSX website. The first thing we need to do is track down this emulator. In this guide, we show you how to play games that were released on this system via the PCSX2 emulator. It would be one of the few consoles that could compete with Nintendo’s Gamecube system. The PS2 is the next console that was released after the PSX. It’s better to start with a juvenile than an adult, especially if this is your first boa. The disadvantages of buying a boa “used” is that it may be less tame or potentially even sick. The advantage of going this route is that you’ll usually save some money on the animal itself, as well as get some supplies in the deal. You can also pick up a “used” boa from your local reptile community, rescue, or classifieds. Furthermore, captive-bred boas tend to be more docile than wild-caught, which is an important quality in a medium-large snake. This helps to make sure that you’re getting a CB ( captive-bred) individual, and reptiles produced by professional breeders tend to be much healthier than any you’ll find from an importer or the pet store. The best way to get a boa constrictor is to buy it from a professional breeder - as in, someone who has been doing this for years and puts their animals’ health first, not financial gain. However, expect to pay at around $50-$150 for a juvenile “normal” Boa imperator, which is the most common and least expensive boa species. You’re also likely to spend more when buying from a professional breeder than if you buy one at a pet store. Pricing varies by species and morph, with adults being more expensive than juveniles. Photo contributed by Crispy Snakes How Much Does a Boa Cost? Don’t buy one unless you’re prepared to care for it as a large adult!Īlright, deep breath. If you find yourself overwhelmed, they must be rehomed - setting it “free” in a local park or forest is not an option. Large adults can be difficult to handle alone, require large (often custom-made) enclosures, and can live as long as 40 years. “Am I capable of caring for an adult boa for its entire life?”īoa constrictors are medium to large snakes that can poop and pee like a large dog as adults. Go to the zoo, meet up with someone from your local herpetological society, call up a reptile educator, whatever you need to do to make it happen. You can do this by joining a boa-specific Facebook group like Boa Constrictor Keepers (people are always happy to show off pictures of their pets), but ideally you need to see an adult in-person to truly comprehend what you’re getting yourself into. “Do I understand this snake’s growth potential?”īig-eyed little babies don’t stay small forever this applies to puppies and humans, and it definitely applies to reptiles. Congrats! At this point you need to stop and ask yourself two questions: So, you’ve decided that you want a pet boa constrictor. This is one of those shortcomings Apple should’ve fixed ages ago, but for some reason, they refuse to. Yes, the Finder as-is does not ship with cut and paste – all it can do is copy and paste. The developer appears to be struggling with the issue of integrating the tab bar with the split view.Īnother extremely welcome feature is cut and paste. This feature requires some work, as it looks rather odd. TotalFinder simply mirrors the entire Finder window to achieve a split view, conjoining two tabs in one. Of course, springloading is implemented as well, as well as tearing off tabs and combining them.Īnother, less polished feature is the split view. You can rearrange tabs, and use them as drop targets for drag and drop operations. As a heavy Chrome user, this is really, really good news, and it makes sure that the tab experience in your Finder is nicely consistent. The code for this feature is taken straight from Google Chrome, meaning it looks and functions exactly like the tabs in the Mac OS X version of Chrome. TotalFinder delivers a set of very welcome features, prime of which is tabs. “TotalFinder is an add-on which gets loaded into the Finder when you launch TotalFinder.app,” the website explains, “It does not modify your Finder.app files on the disk, it modifies current instance of Finder running in memory.” The beauty in TotalFinder, in contrast to, say, something like PathFinder, is that it’s a set of extensions to the Finder, and doesn’t actually replace or even alter the Finder.app binary. BinaryAge was kind enough to provide me with a free license so I could give a quick review of TotalFinder. TotalFinder is a collection of Finder extensions that tries to bring some of Google Chrome’s interface ideas to the Finder. While third parties can’t fix the bugs, they can extend the Finder’s feature set. It lacks several features common to other file managers, and on top of that, it has several issues with dealing with some types of network shares (SAMBA, specifically). It’s a public secret that there are many people with complaints about Mac OS X’s Finder. 2 Etcher: Etcher is an image burning software that is Open-source, free, and has a modern user interface.
